Save Time: Get the right W-9

Isn’t it a bummer when your customer sends the wrong paperwork when you thought it was right? Here is important information to save both you and your customer time and inconvenience when submitting the required tax documents.

In 2018, new IRS rules required Rocky Mountain Power to revise the wattsmart Business General Application. As a result, the new IRS Form W-9 (rev. October 2018 or later) must be completed and submitted with the updated General Application (version 11/9/2018 or later). Document forms dated prior to these versions can no longer be accepted.

wattsmart Business participants provide a completed W-9 form (PDF) so Rocky Mountain Power or their program administrator can prepare a 1099-Misc (if required) following the incentive payment. Neither Rocky Mountain Power nor its Program Administrator is providing tax advice or responsible for any tax liability which may be imposed on the participant as a result of any incentive payment. Participants may be responsible for the tax reporting to the IRS if any incentive payments are directed to third parties.
